Angry Badger Productions Launches PIXI - Image Based Lighting for Broadcast and Live Production
April 4, 2024
PIXI - Video-Driven Image-Based Lighting at WANF-TV Atlanta
Angry Badger Productions is excited to launch PIXI, an Image Based Lighting solution for Broadcast, Streaming, and Live Production that is entirely turnkey. A prototype of PIXI was exhibited last year at NAB. A more advanced version of PIXI is available for purchase this year.
Image Based Lighting (IBL) enhances immersive storytelling by using video or still images to create lighting effects that are synchronized with and reinforce the scene. Traditional IBL is usually complex. However, PIXI seamlessly incorporates background video and still images such as those from an LED wall, green screen or monitor wall, as well as Virtual and Augmented Reality scenic elements into an easy-to-use system to create lighting that matches the surrounding scenic environment. This embeds the presenter in the action, adds believability and propels the production and viewer engagement to the next level.
PIXI will be on display using Quasar Science Rainbow tubes and Litepanels fixtures at the NAB Show, Las Vegas Convention Center on April 13 - 17, 2024 at the Videndum booth #C5817.
We invite you to stop by for a demonstration, or make an appointment by contacting kathryn@angrybadgerproductions.com. PIXI will also be offered at the Barbizon booth #C5732. Make sure to ask about special NAB Show pricing.
Previously this type of set up was only accessible to expensive feature films and other large productions and was personnel-heavy, time consuming and operationally expensive. The ABP team developed PIXI specifically as an easy, cost effective and simple operational model to work seamlessly with existing control room and automation systems. It is switcher-driven allowing it to fit easily into established workflows. It requires no programming and needs no operator once installed and commissioned.
PIXI takes a video signal, still or motion, in almost any format, and creates immersive lighting environments that increase engagement and reinforce storytelling. PIXI turns any image into a lighting cue. PIXI can be controlled by a simple keyboard to allow instant adjustments to brightness and other parameters. It is reliable and can be remotely operated and adjusted.
PIXI takes any VR or AR scene and adds a level of believability by matching the light to the scene. The system allows organizations with reasonable budgets to enter the VR/AR arena with powerful lighting tools that require practically no additional operating expenses. PIXI leverages the performance and unmatched color science of Quasar Science lighting instruments to achieve spectacular results.
Unlike other IBL workflows that require specialized staff, this system can be operated by a station’s existing staff. Different from all other IBL options that require pre- and post-production, this cutting-edge system is designed for fast-paced live production. Because it is a simplified, turnkey system, it is more economical to purchase as well as to operate. It offers TV stations, and others doing live production, the ability to create more engaging storytelling that is quick and economical, in a way no one else is doing and offers an unparalleled opportunity to do it better than the competition...for less.
Kim Saxon, News Director for WANF-TV, Atlanta comments “Atlanta News First is thrilled to be the first installation in the country of this exciting next-gen tool for engaging, immersive storytelling.
